Gucchi Mushrooms | Dried Himalayan Morels
Himalayan Morel Mushrooms
Product Overview
Himalayan Morel Mushrooms are often regarded as the “Cuisine of the Royals” because of their exceptional flavour, rarity, and premium value. In Kashmir, they are traditionally known as Kani’ghitch, while across many other parts of India they are commonly called Gucchi.
Highly valued for their distinctive taste and culinary quality, these rare mushrooms are collected by hand from temperate conifer forests and remote Himalayan slopes in India.
Important natural harvesting regions include the Kangra Valley, Jammu and Kashmir, and the upper Himalayan forests around Gurez near the India-Pakistan border.
Morels grow naturally in the wild, often around decaying logs, fallen leaves, and humus-rich forest soil. Unlike many commonly cultivated mushrooms, Gucchi mushrooms are difficult to grow commercially because of their unpredictable natural growth patterns.
Their limited seasonal availability, challenging terrain, and labour-intensive collection process contribute significantly to their rarity and premium market value.
Himalayan Morels are easily recognised by their pale yellow colour, distinctive honeycomb-like cap, deep pits and ridges, and prominent white stem. Their unusual spongy structure gives them their characteristic appearance and contributes to their rich, savoury flavour.
After harvesting, the mushrooms are naturally sun-dried to help preserve their concentrated taste and delicate, velvety texture. This makes them a highly valued ingredient in both traditional and gourmet kitchens.
Gucchi mushrooms naturally contain potassium, Vitamin D, and B-vitamins.
